Board of Trustees Officers

Daniel Cardell is chairman and CEO of Roadwave LLC, a provider of transportation services to the energy business operating in the Marcellus shale region of Pennsylvania. Mr. Cardell received a B.S. in finance from Wilkes University in 1979 and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Cardell has served on the board of trustees since 2008.

  

Bill Miller is founder of Miller and Co., a consulting business that specializes in retail and brand consulting. He received a B.S. in business administration and communications from Wilkes University in 1981. Mr. Miller has served on the board of trustees since 1999. 

  

Daniel Klem is a professor of biology and the Sarkis Acopian Professor of Ornithology and Conservation Biology at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. He received a B.A. in biology from Wilkes University in 1968, an M.A. in biology from Hofstra University in 1973, and a Ph.D. in zoology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1979. Dr. Klem has served on the board of trustees since 2000.

  

Virginia Sikes is a partner at the Philadelphia law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads LLP. Ms. Sikes served a clerkship with the late Judge Max Rosenn of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She received an A.B. and M.Ed. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, before earning a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1981. Ms. Sikes has served on the board of trustees since 2006.

  
Carolann Besler has enjoyed a long career as an entrepreneur in the child care industry.  In addition to owning her own centers, she has served as past president of the NJ Child Care Association, a consultant to people who wanted to open daycare centers; past validator for the National Academy for accreditation certificate for existing child care centers; and past member of the governor’s advisory council to set standards for child care centers receiving funds from the state government.  Carol is a 1976 graduate of Wilkes University with a B.S. in Education.  Ms. Besler became a member of the Board in 2016.  
The Rev. Michael Brewster is senior pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Wilkes-Barre. He was installed as pastor of Mt. Zion in 2004. Rev. Brewster was licensed to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ and ordained by the Northeast Freewill Baptist Conference in 1995. Rev. Brewster has served on the board of trustees since 2008.  
Laura Barbera Cardinale most recently held the position of vice president of finance and business planning for Verizon in Boston before retiring in 2009. She received a B.A. in economics from Wilkes University in 1972. Ms. Cardinale has served on the board of trustees since 2011..  
Terrence Casey is president of Chancellor Financial Group, a financial investment advisory firm in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Casey received an A.A.S. in business administration and management from Rochester Institute of Technology and a B.A. in political science and government from Wilkes University in 1981. Mr. Casey has served on the board of trustees since 2009.  

Dr. Charnetski graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 1997 and from Pennsylvania College of Optometry with a B.S. in Visual Science and Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) in 2001.  She is employed by Northeastern Eye Institute, Scranton.  Dr. Charnetski is the President of the Alumni Association Board at Wilkes and has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2013. 

  
Charles Cohen is managing director and third-generation owner of Benco Dental Company, based in Pittston, Pa. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English in 1989. Mr. Cohen has served on the board of trustees since 2005.  
Jeff Davidowitz is owner of Oldfield Company and vice president of Penn Footwear Company, both based in northeastern Pennsylvania. He received a B.S. from Babson College in 1979. Mr. Davidowitz has served on the board of trustees since 2007.  

Ray Dombroski has been with Comcast Corporation since 1999 and is currently senior vice president of product development and deployment for Comcast Business, a national provider of advanced, flexible communications solutions for small- and mid-sized businesses. After receiving his electrical engineering degree from Wilkes in 1978, Ray began his career at RCA Laboratories in Princeton, N.J. Always entrepreneurial by nature, Ray was part of a start-up long distance telephone and data communications company called Argo Communications in the early 1980s. In 1987, Ray joined an early-stage cellular telephone company, Metrophone/Metromedia, as vice president of engineering and operations. After several successful years, the company was acquired by Comcast. Ray still has roots in the Wyoming Valley area and returns to Wilkes-Barre to visit his parents. He and his wife, Colleen DeMorat, live in Malvern, Pa., and are the parents of two grown children, Allison and Ian.

  

William J. Grant is the Founder of Hildebrandt Learning Centers, LLC, based in Dallas, PA, a provider of employer related early learning programs for colleges and universities, state and federal governments and corporations in the Middle Atlantic region.  Mr. Grant received a B.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1975 and a MBA from Wilkes College in 1986.

  
Jason Griggs is owner and president of Griggs Properties LLC, a land development and property management company in Montgomery County, Pa. He is also a franchise owner of MaxOut Strength Studio LLC. Mr. Griggs graduated from Wilkes University with a B.S. in business administration in 1990. Mr. Griggs has served on the board of trustees since 2009.  
An internationally recognized expert in energy policy and global market access, Randa Fahmy Hudome has more than 25 years of legal and public policy experience, including service in the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government. Randa is president of Fahmy Hudome International, a strategic consulting firm, which provides advice and counsel to international and domestic clientele with an interest in international business transactions, global government affairs and energy policy. Previously, she was appointed as the U.S. associate deputy secretary of energy, served as counselor to a U.S. senator, and practiced as an attorney with the law firm of Willkie, Farr and Gallagher. Ms. Fahmy Hudome’s opinions on international diplomacy and energy policy have been published in the Wall Street Journal, and she appears frequently as an expert analyst on energy and national security issues on NBC’s Today Show, MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, and Al-Jazeera.   
Melanie Maslow Kern is president of Huntsville Golf Club in Shavertown, Pa. Ms. Maslow Kern is also a partner in Maslow Lumia Bartorillo Advertising, an advertising and marketing agency in Wilkes-Barre. She received a B.A. in French language and literature from Cornell University in 1986. Ms. Maslow Kern has served on the board of trustees since 1995.  
John Kerr is managing principal of Bay Financial Associates, a comprehensive wealth management firm in Waltham, Mass. He is also a registered investment advisor and president of Bay Financial Advisors. He received a B.S. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1972. Mr. Kerr has served on the board of trustees since 2009.   
Carol Keup is chief executive officer of Valley Distributing and Storage Company, a privately owned third-party logistics provider in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. Ms. Keup received a B.S. in materials engineering and engineering management from Wilkes University in 1989. Ms. Keup has served on the board of trustees since 2008.   
Milan Kirby is president of Gryphon Trading in Morristown, N.J. Mr. Kirby is also associated with Stanmar. He earned a B.S. from Providence College in 1987. Mr. Kirby has served on the board of trustees since 2004.

Randy Mark is owner and president of Pulverman, a manufacturer of metal parts and assemblies located in Dallas, Pa. He received a B.S. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1981.   
 George Matz most recently acted as senior vice president of world sales for Boston Technology, a systems and software leader based in Wakefield, Mass. He graduated from Wilkes University in 1971. Mr. Matz has served on the board of trustees since 2005.  
Gerard “Jerry” McHale is a CPA in Florida and New York and is certified in Financial Forensics.  He has worked extensively in the Bankruptcy and Receivership area for the past 40 years in Southwest Florida.  He maintains a professional firm which specializes in Bankruptcies, Insolvencies, Receiverships, Litigation Support and Mass Consumer Frauds.  Mr. McHale has been a court-appointed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Trustee on complex cases in Florida, Virginia, California and New York.  He has had substantial success in recoveries under Ponzi schemes and mass consumer frauds.  Prior to this, Mr. McHale‘s experience included several directorships in various banks together being the Chairman of the Board of a NYSE company.  Mr. McHale graduated from Wilkes University with a B.S. in Commerce and Finance in 1967.  Mr. McHale became a member of the Board in 2016.  

For 13 years, Dr. Stelios Patsiokas has been with Sirius XM Radio where he is currently the Chief Innovation Officer and Corporate Vice-President. A native of Serres, Greece, Dr. Patsiokas came to Wilkes University on a full academic scholarship and graduated in 1975 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to earn his Masters and Ph.D. in EE from Virginia Tech. Stell, as he is known to all, went on to a stellar career at Motorola and received industry recognition during his 19-year tenure for his technical expertise and leadership in designing, developing and implementing wireless communication technology products. He was hired by XM Satellite Radio in 1998 and with his team of engineers, in two years time, created the technology that allowed Satellite radio to fly. He’s the holder of over 25 US patents in the areas of RF Communication Systems and Wireless Devices. He was featured in the Oct 2014 issue of Wilkes magazine and was the spring commencement speaker for Wilkes in May 2014. He lives in Deerfield Beach Florida with his wife Dari who is a licensed commercial airline pilot and artist. He’s the father of two grown daughters, Christine and Alanna.

  
George Pawlush is vice president of public relations and community affairs at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Conn. He received a baccalaureate degree in 1969 and a master’s degree in 1976, both from Wilkes University. Mr. Pawlush has served on the board of trustees since 2009.   
Thomas Ralston is leadership gift officer for Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. Mr. Ralston graduated from Wilkes University in 1980. Mr. Ralston has served as the Alumni Association representative to the board of trustees since 2011   
Hedy Rittenmeyer is president of Bridge Breast Network, a Dallas, Texas, non-profit organization that provides access to diagnostic and treatment services for breast cancer. She assisted in the start-up of Oak Leaf Therapeutic Horsemanship Center in Nicholson Township, Pa. Ms. Rittenmeyer received a B.S. in biology from Wilkes University in 1972.  Ms. Rittenmeyer has served on the board of trustees since 2008.   
Atty. Eugene Roth is a partner at the law firm Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald.  He has served many years on the Wilkes Board of Trustees starting in 1979 through 2008.  In 2008 he was recognized with Emeritus status.  In June 2016 Atty. Roth became the first Emeritus member of the Board to be re-nominated to the Board of Trustees.  Atty. Roth received his B.S. in Business Administration from Wilkes in 1957.  He received his law degree from Dickinson School of Law in 1960.  
Steven Roth is a partner at Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald LLP, a multi-disciplinary regional law firm in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Roth received a B.S. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1984. He also received an M.B.A. from LaSalle University and a J.D. from Duquesne University. Mr. Roth has served on the board of trustees since 2007.   
Elizabeth Slaughter is a clinical psychologist and senior administrator. She received a B.A. in psychology from Wilkes University in 1968, followed by an M.A. from the New School for Research, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Slaughter has served on the board of trustees since 1982.   
Matthew Sordoni is vice president of Upland Corporation, a family office and holding company in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Sordoni graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1999 with a degree in business administration and received his M.B.A from ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. Mr. Sordoni has served on the board of trustees since 2011.    
Doug is owner and president of Straub Metal International, a stainless steel distributor servicing North America and located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Mr. Straub received a B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1988.
