Wilkes University’s core requirements are taken by all students regardless of major.

Transfer students can receive credit for these courses from coursework completed prior to attending Wilkes.

  • Computer Literacy: CS115 - Computers and Applications or higher
    • min 3 credit hours
  • Written Communication: ENG 101 – English Composition
    • 4 credit hours
  • Oral Communication: COM101 – Fundamentals of Public Speaking
    • 3 credit hours
  • Quantitative Reasoning: MTH 101 – Solving Problems Using Mathematics or higher
    • min 3 credit hours
  • Area I: The Humanities – must complete 3 of the courses listed below for 9 credit hours
    • ENG 120 – Introduction to Literature
    • HST 101 – Historical Foundations of the Modern World
    • PHL 101 – Introduction to Philosophy OR Foreign Language
  • Area II: The Scientific World – must complete 2 of the courses listed below for 6 credit hours minimum
    • BIO 105 or 121 – Biology
    • CHM 105 or CHM 115 – Chemistry
    • EES 105, EES 211, EES 230, EES240, EES 251, or EES271 - Earth and Environmental Sciences
    • PHY 105, PHY 174, or PHY 201 – Physics
  • Area III: The Social Sciences – must complete at least 1 of the courses listed below for 6 credit hours minimum
    • ANT 101 – Introduction to Anthropology
    • PS 111 – Introduction to American Politics
    • PSY 101 – General Psychology
    • SOC 101 – Introduction to Sociology
  • Area IV: The Visual and Performing Arts – must complete 1 course for 3 credit hours minimum

    • DAN 100 – Dance Appreciation: Comprehensive Dance Forms
    • MUS 101 – Introduction to Music I
    • THE 100 – Approach to Theatre
