Bring enough to make your first few weeks comfortable.
Adapting to a new environment is difficult enough without having to completely change your habits.

For documentation purposes,  report to the International Student Advsior's Office...
at your earliest convenience. Bring your passport and I-20. Your I-20, acceptance letter, and I-94, issued upon entrance to the country, should also be kept in your passport.

The ISA's office provides information regarding Immigation and Naturalization Service (INS) regulations, as well as assistance and guidance in dealing with the American lifestyle. The ISA's office also provides other services, on a less formal basis, as needed.

Dress for the weather. There are four distinct seasons in Pennsylvania.
In January, the normal maximum temperature is 2C (28F), although it may dip as low as 9C (15F) in a typical winter. If you plan to arrive in January, you should bring at least one warm outfit and a coat before you leave home. Other heavy clothing may be purchased here.

In July, the normal maximum temperature is 28C (84F) and the average low is 17C (62F). Temperatures of 38C (95F) do occur. If you plan to arrive in August, you will need lightweight clothing. A sweater (jumper) or light jacket is always a good idea.

A blanket, pillow, extra-long twin-size sheet, and towels...
can be brought or purchased here. These items are not provided in campus residence halls or off-campus apartments.

Bring enough money to buy necessary personal items, books (about US$200),
and pay for bus/cab service, as needed, from the airport (up to US$100). If you arrive before the residence halls open, it will also be necessary to pay a hotel bill and eat at a restaurant.

It is not advisable to bring large sums of money. Once a bank account has been opened, money may be electronically transferred from home into the account. Tuition payments may be transferred directly to the University from your home bank.
