Spring 2012 Conservatory Session will offer classes in the following subject areas:

The Degnan Ballet Center at the Conservatory of Wilkes University.
Dance classes are offered to students ages 3 and up, for beginners and pre-professional dancers.

All classes are taught by the professional and esteemed faculty of the Degnan Ballet Center and are appropriately constructed for the level of each student.
     
  • Ballet/Pointe, Variations, Contemporary – training is conducted from the classical tradition of Russia’s Kirov Ballet.  
  • Jazz – training in jazz dance is based on a ballet foundation and transformed into all styles including traditional jazz, contemporary, lyrical, theatre dance and hip-hop/street jazz.

           Class Schedule Is Subject To Change.

*Master Classes will consist of accelerated instruction in ballet or contemporary dance and will be offered when guest professional teachers become available. These classes may not be substituted for required ballet classes.

Indian Classical Dance Class

The beginner course offers an opportunity to study the Bharata Natyam style of Indian Classical Dance. Class work includes basic steps, movements, and hand gestures as well as an introduction into the history, style and rhythmic base.
 
This intermediate/advanced level course offers continuing development and deeper understanding of the basics and more intricate and challenging Classical Indian Dance Combinations.

Int/Adv. Course -    Fridays (beginning  January 27th  4:15 - 5:30pm)

Learn to Play Guitar (ages 9 - 16)
Students will learn guitar technique, music reading and basic chords as well as songs chosen by the students with the guidance of the instructor in a fun and motivating atmosphere. Students will gain insight in this group setting that may help them decide whether private instruction should be pursued.

Flute Master Class/Group Lesson
 
The instructor works closely with the students in regard to their levels of experience and assists in the development of skills for new musical selections or currently practiced pieces.

In addition students will receive valuable “tips” on how to prepare for auditions (how to beat the nerves!). Other aspects of class objectives include demonstration and discussion about tone, vibrato, technique and artistry.

Flutists can tie this informative and challenging class in with private lessons as well (additional fees for private instruction apply).

*Please note that registration at the Conservatory is always open and tuition may be prorated for a late start in the semester. To register, please call 570.408.4426.  All Conservatory classes are non-credit.
