Academic Advising In-Service

University College has scheduled the annual Academic Advising In-Service for Friday, August 16th.
This year's in-service is designed for advisors at all levels who wish to explore ways to improve the advising experience for their students. The day begins at 9:30 am and concludes at 3:00 pm with lunch provided. The sessions begin with the role of advising in supporting student success and the foundations of the advising program at Wilkes. Following is a discussion of the types of outcomes that constitute a successful advising experience and the approaches that contribute most to exceptional advising.
The afternoon sessions will be devoted to considering how it is that we know we are effective advisors. A more detailed agenda will be sent to all participants. Our facilitator for these discussions will be Dr. Rich Robbins, Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences at Bucknell University. Rich serves as a faculty member at the NACADA Institutes f! or advising excellence and has an extensive record of presentations an d publications on advising, including the 2010 NACADA Monograph Scholarly Inquiry in Academic Advising. In addition, Rich has been recognized for his own advising excellence, including being the recipient of this year's NACADA "Virginia N. Gordon Award for Excellence in Advising."
