Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) students from Wilkes University’s Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and the Advocacy Alliance will offer two outreach sessions to educate community members and assist with sign-ups for the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). Sessions will be offered on Tuesday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Volunteers in Medicine, 190 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Wilkes-Barre. Walk-ins are welcome but individuals may wish to call 570-970-2864 to make an appointment.
If you do not have HealthCare insurance after March 31 2014, you may be assessed a penalty of $95, or 1 percent of your income, whichever is higher, for the 2014 tax year. After March 31, the next open enrollment period for Marketplace HealthCare insurance is November 15, 2014 through January 15, 2015.
Individuals attending the March 11 or March 18 sessions should bring their Social Security numbers or document information for immigrants with satisfactory status; employer and income information for everyone in the household; and federal tax information. Attendees will receive assistance in determining their eligibility for tax credits that can be applied towards HealthCare Plan premiums on the marketplace, reviewing marketplace options, and help signing up for an insurance plan that day.
