Research interests:
1. The siting, design, and implementation of decentralized land-based wastewater disposal systems as part of low impact development with a focus on the use of spray irrigation, drip irrigation, landscape irrigation, water reuse, and constructed wetland systems.

2. The evaluation of iron hydroxides and other complexes as a mechanism to remove phosphate, arsenic, and other contaminates from point and non-point sources of pollution.

3. Brownfield, abandoned mine land reclamation, and urban redevelopment using a combination of manufactured soils, water reuse, and “green” stormwater management systems, such as bioretention, greenscapes, and green roofs.

4. The relationship between soil morphology, redoximorphic features, and saturated conditions within the vadose zone.

5. The development of a field station to facilitate training and education in the areas of ecology, soil science, geology, and other earth sciences.

6.Stream and watershed restoration related to treating and managing abandoned mine drainage, combined sewer overflows, and stormwater management. Design, monitoring, and assessment of passive and active mine drainage treatment systems.

7. The use of real-time monitoring in watershed management and environmental education.

8. Watershed based approach to stormwater management and maintaining long-term groundwater recharge rates.
