What is the MyWilkes portal?

The My Wilkes portal (Luminis) is a single login portal that gives users access to various systems that previously required multiple logins and passwords, such as the email system (Outlook), Banner, WebCT, and Interact. With one login, users are now able to access all of these systems.

Who has access to MyWilkes?

Currently, the system is only available to students, faculty, and staff. It may be available to other populations in the future. A Wilkes University email account is required for access to this system.

How do I login to mywilkes.wilkes.edu?

Go to http://mywilkes.wilkes.edu and login entering the User Name (firstname.lastname) and Password you enter for e-mail and logging into your computer.


Clicking on the Login button will allow entrance into the My Wilkes Portal. If you have difficulty logging into the MyWilkes portal, please call the University Help Desk at ext 4357 (HELP.)

How do I find my usual programs?

There are several features of MyWilkes that will help you get easily around and find those services (and new services!) that you would like to access. The toolbar located in the upper right corner helps you easily navigate and find those commonly used programs:

  • Click on the Email icon to access WebAcess Outlook. Remember that if you are using email, logging out of WebAccess will also log you out of the portal.
  • If you need to access WebCT, clicking the icon will take you directly into WebCT. Make sure to log out of WebCT before you log out of the portal.
  • Clubs, groups, or special interest committees can form a group within the portal. Click to access your group information.
  • Click on this icon to access the special events calendar on the Wilkes University web site.
  • The Help icon will provide assistance with some commonly used features of the portal.
  • Clicking on the Logout button will log you out of the portal. Be sure to close out any other applications that may be open, such as Banner or WebCT.

You can also find some other commonly used programs by clicking on special pages – or ‘tabs’ – within the portal. The tabs are specialized depending on information is most pertinent to your role – or function – at the University.


For example, everyone has a Home tab:



The Home tab broadcasts timely announcements that keep students and staff connected with the University, such as Urgent News!, Today@Wilkes, and Personal Announcements.


Other tabs will be available for students, faculty and staff that provide additional Banner and Interact services, as well feeds to the Wilkes University Web site.

  • My Courses: The My Courses tabs lists the courses that a student is taking in the semester and enables students to connect to WebCT to view course materials.
  • Libraries:This tab provides a direct link to the Farley Library catalogue, to search for articles, and other information about the library.
  • Schools and Departments: Provides a direct link to departmental and school pages on the Wilkes University web site.
  • Student Services: Provides commonly used links for students that were formally on the Interact (http://interact.wilkes.edu) site, such as course registration, grade information, financial aid, and the ability to pay tuition and fees.
  • Help: Provides helpful tips and information about IT resources as well as a brief tutorial on the MyWilkes portal.

In addition, there will be customized tabs for the role – or function – a person has at the University.

Are all administrative programs that I use at Wilkes in the MyWilkes portal?

Not yet. But as the MyWilkes portal grows, more programs and features will be added. Additionally, you may be required to still enter your username and password when you access a few programs within the MyWilkes portal. However, as the portal matures, single sign on will be added for these programs as well.

Where do I find the Banner INB login?

The login for the Banner INB system is located in the Administrative tab. There is a special window – a channel – that contains Banner Links:

Note:When planning to access Internet Native Banner off-campus, please sign into the Wilkes VPN (http://vpn.wilkes.edu), using your email username and password prior to signing onto the MyWilkes portal.

Where do I find the Interact login?

The login for the Banner self-service system (Interact) is located in the Administrative tab. There is a channel that contains Banner Links:



Click on -Self-Service Banner- to enter Interact from this view.

What happens if I don’t logout of MyWilkes?

MyWilkes has an automatic logout feature of 120 minutes (2 hours) after continuous inactivity. For open access labs on the Wilkes campus, this may be shorter.


If you would like to set your own, shorter automatic logout, you may do so. This can be configured by going into the My Account feature of MyWilkes.

  1. Click on My Account in the upper-left hand corner of MyWilkes (Hint: It will be to the direct left of your name.)
  2. On the My Account Preferences screen, you will see the option to Change Timeout.
  3. Select from the drop down menu, the new timeout value in minutes. The minimum time is 30 minutes; the maximum time is 180 minutes (3 hours.)
  4. Click on Save Changes. You must log out of the portal before the will take effect.

What do I do if I forget my username and/or password?

If you forget your username and/or password, call the ITS HelpDesk at ext 4357 (HELP), answer a few questions, and you will be able to receive your username and/or password.

How can I change my password?

If you already know your username and password, and want to change it to a new one, go to the Help tab within MyWilkes. There is a channel called Account Management Tools:

Can MyWilkes be accessed off campus?

Yes.

What browsers can be used with MyWilkes?

MyWilkes can be used with the IE7 (and IE6), Netscape, Firefox, and Safari browsers.

Can I access MyWilkes from my Mac OS?

Yes, MyWilkes is supported on Mac OSX (and Mac OS9).  You can use the Safari or Firefox browsers with MyWilkes.
