Center for English Language Instruction Mission Statement

The mission of Intensive English Program (IEP) at Wilkes is to provide quality instruction to both international and English language learning studentds planning to pursue university studies in America. To this end, the IEP program at Wilkes provides students with curricula, classroom materials, and teaching methods that are well grounded in both theory and practice based on the latest research findings in the field of second language learning and teaching. We aim to:

* Provide quality academic English language instruction for students whose native language is not English;
* Prepare students for further academic study in the U.S.;
* Provide English language instruction for personal growth;
* Provide students with the advising they need to successfully reach their academic or professional goals;
* Provide leadership in the areas of intercultural understanding and cooperation;
* Provide learner-centered instruction;
* Provide services relating to admission, counseling, academic life, and the general success of international students attending Wilkes University;

While keeping with the vision of University College:

University College will encompass a range of comprehensive programs and services designed to provide the individual attention and support students require to establish and achieve their educational goals. The components will be organized into distinct, yet interconnected entities; making each sub-unit more easily manageable and the results more easily measured. The comprehensive range of high quality services will be made possible by efficient use of versatile professionals, who are prepared to cross over from one component to another while maintaining responsibility for specific programs.

All students will find services at the UC to assist them to improve their learning. The range and extent of these services will be highly flexible by design in order to anticipate and respond to the changing needs of students and faculty as vision becomes reality for the University community.

The mission statement of University College:

University College is dedicated to providing exemplary services to assist all students to achieve academic and intellectual excellence in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs, from their initial transition to college through their progress to post-graduate studies and professional careers.
