Mission Statement
It is our mission in the Sidhu School of Business to integrate our students into professional leaders by: conducting on-going self-assessment, developing emotional intelligence, strengthening team building competencies, engaging in field work/career preparation experiences, learning to take advantage of coaching/mentoring activities, and formulating developmental action plans and a leadership portfolio.
Overview of Personal and Professional Development
-The Personal and Professional development program, also known as PPD, is a seven-semester program closely linked to the Sidhu School of business at Wilkes University
-This program is an innovative, integrated, developmental advising/coaching program
- 1 credit per semester (7 semesters)
Who Participates?
- Every undergraduate
o Business administration
o Accounting
o Entrepreneurship
- Students are placed in small Personal and Professional Development teams, based on assessments of their leadership styles, learning mannerisms and personality types.
Why Does It Matter?
-Leadership is a key business competency
-Leaders must possess the following competencies
o Self-awareness
o Empathy
o Emotional intelligence

o Integrity
o Compassion
How Does It Work?
- The Personal and Professional Development program provides an environment where each student can start and pursue his or her own leadership development journey
- Each student has the opportunity to
o Build strong professional network
o Face social and business challenges
o Practice meaningful leadership
- Experiences are shared within the PPD teams, providing opportunities to gain from peer-to-peer learning and support, and to develop teamwork and team leadership skills
- Teams stay together over seven semester and they are assigned a group to a Personal and Professional Development class section, and a corresponding core business class section each term
