Educators looking to expand their skills in teaching grammar to English language learners can enroll in a workshop offered in Mesa by Wilkes University. The two-day professional development event will be held on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 at Mesa Public Schools, Curriculum and Instruction Center building number four, 549 N. Stapley Drive.
The workshop is open to all K-12 teachers. It is sponsored by Wilkes University’s teaching English as a second language master’s degree, which is offered in Mesa this fall. Cost of attending is $150. Space is limited.
The workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of best practices in teaching English grammar to second language students, as required by the Arizona English Language Proficiency Standards. Teachers will be trained to develop a variety of classroom-ready activities, lesson plans and supplemental learning materials. Participants can expect to leave with concepts they can immediately implement in their own classroom.
Friday’s session will be held from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Saturday session will be held 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Meals will be provided.
Registration ends on April 26. Participants can register online at wilkes.augusoft.net and by clicking "courses". For more information, contact Kimberly Niezgoda at (800) WILKES-U Ext. 4170 or email@example.com.
