Teaching is a rewarding and demanding profession.

As a teacher, you will have an important role in educating students and shaping their lives. Wilkes University's Education faculty members take great care to prepare you for a successful career in teaching through a dynamic, comprehensive program. Prospective teachers learn and apply the most relevant and current educational research and gain valuable experience through varied field experiences in regional school classrooms.

As an Elementary Education major you will be equipped with...

the knowledge to teach all subjects at the elementary school level (K-6). As a Secondary Education minor you will prepared to teach a content area subject at the secondary school level (7-12). You can also add additional certification areas including Early Childhood Education and Special Education. Wilkes Teacher Education Students develop a strong foundation in pedagogy, classroom technology, special needs, multicultural education, and classroom management.

The Mission of the Teacher Education Program...

is to provide the educational community and society at large with competent, caring, and ethical educators who are life-long learners, reflective practitioners, and effective communicators. The Teacher Education program provides opportunities for students to grow academically and professionally. The program promotes an appreciation for diversity, as well as a regard for research-based and innovative practices. The ethic of service and dedication are expected of Teacher Education students to meet the diverse needs of all students within the learning community.
