Stefan Mrozewski (a former Kozciuszko Foundation grantee), one of the world's leading engravers, was engaged to design the room which would serve both as a reference and reading room in the proposed library. Mr. Mrozewski designed the room and furniture in the Zakopane style, the artistic tradition of the Tatra mountaineers. He and Stefan Hellersperk of Dallas, Pennsylvania, constructed and carved the furniture.

THE POLISH ROOM COMMITTEE SCHOLARSHIP was established in 1972 to express appreciation of services rendered to Wilkes and the community of Northeastern Pennsylvania by Dr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Kocyan. Scholarships are awarded annually to upperclassmen of Polish descent with exceptionally high cumulative grade point averages. The Financial Aid Director, Vice President of Enrollment Services and a member of the Scholarship Committee select qualified students and award the scholarships.

The Polish Room Committee Scholarship welcomes applications. To be considered, applicants must write a brief description of their Polish heritage (family immigration description) and what that heritage means to them.
This must be submitted, along with the applicant's name, WIN and contact information to Melanie Mickelson, Interim Vice President for Enrollment Services. Applications can be e-mailed to Melanie.Mickelson@wilkes.edu or sent via campus mail to UCOM 214. Deadline for consideration is October 15, 2009.

Please check back to this page for information on a Polish language course and a genealogy workshop that will be scheduled for the spring of 2010.
