Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Management
Become a leader in the growing field of sustainability management with Wilkes University’s new, 12-credit graduate certificate in sustainability management.
Sustainability is becoming a growing focus for many organizations that strive to be more environmentally conscious. Students in the program will learn:
- steps to implement a green workplace
- evolving business and public policy trends including current standards and
certification
- how to conduct a carbon footprint analysis and energy assessments
- cost cutting measures that will positively impact the environment
Program Format
The program consists of four 3-credit graduate courses that prepare students in sustainability standards and management practices.
Each course is held primarily online, with a weekend residency at the Wilkes campus where students will participate in a course orientation and field work, plus meet with project groups working together on specific assignments. Weekend residencies conveniently begin on Saturday morning and conclude early Sunday afternoon. Students can complete the program in as little as 16 months, taking one course at a time.
Courses
Introduction to Sustainability
Explore what sustainability is and why it is important in today’s world. Learn evolving business and public policy trends. Study specific standards such as ISO 1400, LEAN, GEMI, LEED, Green Guide for Health Care and Hospitals for a Healthy Environment.
Metrics of Sustainability
Learn how to conduct a carbon footprint analysis, energy assessment and a lifecycle analysis.
Sustainability Implementation
This project oriented course will focus on developing a sustainability system plan based on a real-life situation at a student’s place of work.
Seminar on Industry-focused Sustainability
Students will work in groups to study sustainability standards and practice within the context of a specific industry. Groups will conduct their work in a course wiki-discussion board, assembling their collected literature, field research reports and associated discussions in one area.
Tuition
Tuition for the program is $725 per credit, along with associated university fees. Fee for housing and meals during residency is to be determined and will vary.
