CONSTITUTION OF THE WILKES UNIVERSITY
The name of this organization will be the Wilkes University Nursing Student Organization.
The purposes of this organization are to provide students with the opportunities to engage in community service and expand their knowledge of nursing, and to serve as a forum for socialization and networking with both health care providers in the community and other students.
Section 1: Membership in this organization is required for all nursing students at Wilkes University
Section 2: General membership of the organization will run simultaneous with National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) and Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) membership.
Section 3: Membership is initiated and renewed at the beginning of the fall semester each year. The membership application for the National Student Nursing Association (NSNA) serves as the official application for NSNA, SNAP, and NSO.
Article IV: Officers, Their Election, and Their Duties
Section 1: The officers of this organization, by rank, will be as followed:

Section 2: The election of officers will be as follows:
A. Nominations for class officers will be solicited at the beginning of the fall semester of the sophomore year. Eligible nominees will be those students who are in enrolled in NSG210 for the fall semester of that academic year. Elections are held prior to Fall Break. Officers elected in the sophomore year remain in office through their junior and senior year.
B. The officers who will represent the NSO at University, State, and National activities will be the officers of the Junior Class.
Section 3: The elected officers will have the following duties:
A: President: provides leadership to the nursing student body, implements NSNA, SNAP and NSO polices and procedures, sets the annual plan for fundraising and community activities, represents the NSO at campus and community activities, sets NSO meeting dates and presides over meetings and participates in NSNA and SNAP activities when applicable.
B: Vice President: will assume the responsibilities of president when required, oversees all fundraising activities, represents NSO at campus and community activities, attends NSO meetings as scheduled and participates in NSNA and SNAP activities when applicable.
C: Treasurer: maintains NSO financial accounts, oversees and coordinates financial activities for fundraising and community services, provides verbal and written financial reports to NSO as required, represents the NSO at campus and community activities, attends NSO meetings as scheduled, and participates in NSNA and SNAP activities when applicable.
D: Secretary: records all proceedings at NSO meetings, assists in maintenance and updating of NSO polices and procedures, represents the NSO at campus and community activities, corresponds with vendors and community agencies on behalf of the NSO.
E: Historian: obtains and maintains accounts of NSO activities (i.e., pictures, ads, etc.), coordinates publicity for all NSO activities, represents the NSO at campus and community activities, attends NSO meetings as scheduled, participates in NSNA and SNAP activities when applicable.
Section 4: Requirements to maintain elected office
A. Officers must be in good academic standing, in
accordance with University Policy (GPA >2.0 at all times).
If at any time an officer is no longer enrolled in
courses with the class by which they were elected, they must resign from their
office. (For instance, if the historian elected into office for the class of 2020
does not complete NSG222 and will be repeating NSG 222 with the class of 2021,
that individual does not become the historian of the class of 2021, as someone
has already been elected to that position.)
C. In the event of officer resignation, an election for that office will take place as soon as possible. In the case of the resignation of the president, the vice president will be offered the position of the presidency and an election will take place to replace the vice president. If the vice president does not wish to advance to the presidency, a new presidential election will be held.
D. Each officer is permitted two absences from NSO meetings per semester. All absences must be excused. The officer must contact both the advisor and the president prior to the missed meeting and provide a report appropriate to their responsibilities.
E. Three or more unexcused absences in one semester will result in termination of appointed position. In the event of officer termination, nominations and elections for a replacement will be held. The terminated officer is not eligible for nomination.
Section 5: Transition of Duties Between Classes
A. Incoming sophomore class officers are mentored by the junior class officers.
B. Junior class officers serve as the offical officers in representing the NSO at University, State, and National activities.
C. Junior class officers are mentored by the senior class officers.
Section 1: The advisor should be present whenever possible at organization meetings and activities and should be readily available for consultation whenever necessary.
Section1: Regular meetings will be held monthly as scheduled by the current presiding president.
Section 2: All members of the organization have the opportunity to attend meetings to voice questions or concerns. Meeting times are posted on the NSO information board in the Clinical Nursing Simulation Center (CNSC).
Section 3: Only elected officers may vote on motions made by the organization.
