Board of Trustees Biographies

 

Rev. Michael Brewster
The Rev. Michael Brewster is senior pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Wilkes-Barre. He was installed as pastor of Mt. Zion in 2004. Rev. Brewster was licensed to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ and ordained by the Northeast Freewill Baptist Conference in 1995. Rev. Brewster has served on the board of trustees since 2008.

Daniel Cardell ’79
Daniel Cardell is chairman and CEO of Roadwave LLC, a provider of transportation services to the energy business operating in the Marcellus shale region of Pennsylvania. Mr. Cardell received a B.S. in finance from Wilkes University in 1979 and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Cardell has served on the board of trustees since 2008.

Laura Barbera Cardinale ’72
Laura Barbera Cardinale most recently held the position of vice president of finance and business planning for Verizon in Boston before retiring in 2009. She received a B.A. in economics from Wilkes University in 1972. Ms. Cardinale has served on the board of trustees since 2011.

Terrence Casey ’81
Terrence Casey is president of Chancellor Financial Group, a financial investment advisory firm in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Casey received an A.A.S. in business administration and management from Rochester Institute of Technology and a B.A. in political science and government from Wilkes University in 1981. Mr. Casey has served on the board of trustees since 2009.

Charles F. Cohen
Charles Cohen is managing director and third-generation owner of Benco Dental Company, based in Pittston, Pa. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English in 1989. Mr. Cohen has served on the board of trustees since 2005.

Jeff Davidowitz
Jeff Davidowitz is owner of Oldfield Company and vice president of Penn Footwear Company, both based in northeastern Pennsylvania. He received a B.S. from Babson College in 1979. Mr. Davidowitz has served on the board of trustees since 2007.

Jason Griggs ’90
Jason Griggs is owner and president of Griggs Properties LLC, a land development and property management company in Montgomery County, Pa. He is also a franchise owner of MaxOut Strength Studio LLC. Mr. Griggs graduated from Wilkes University with a B.S. in business administration in 1990. Mr. Griggs has served on the board of trustees since 2009.

Christopher Hackett
Christopher Hackett is owner of OneSource Staffing Solutions in Wilkes-Barre. He is also CEO and owner of Innovation 2 Manufacturing (i2M), a polymer manufacturing facility in Mountain Top, Pa. He graduated from Wittenberg University with a B.A. in business and accounting in 1985. Mr. Hackett began serving on the board of trustees in 2012.

David Hadley ’82
David Hadley is CEO of Pella Windows and Doors of Boston, New Hampshire and Maine. He graduated from Wilkes University in 1982 with a B.S. in business administration. Mr. Hadley also completed the Executive Education Program for Owner-Presidents at Harvard Business School. Mr. Hadley began serving on the board of trustees in 2012.

William Hanbury ’72
William Hanbury is president and CEO of United Way National Capital Area in Washington, D.C. He received a B.A. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1972 and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Mr. Hanbury has served on the board of trustees since 2009.

Randa Fahmy Hudome ’86
An internationally recognized expert in energy policy and global market access, Randa Fahmy Hudome has more than 25 years of legal and public policy experience, including service in the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government. Randa is president of Fahmy Hudome International, a strategic consulting firm, which provides advice and counsel to international and domestic clientele with an interest in international business transactions, global government affairs and energy policy. Previously, she was appointed as the U.S. associate deputy secretary of energy, served as counselor to a U.S. senator, and practiced as an attorney with the law firm of Willkie, Farr and Gallagher. Ms. Fahmy Hudome’s opinions on international diplomacy and energy policy have been published in the Wall Street Journal, and she appears frequently as an expert analyst on energy and national security issues on NBC’s Today Show, MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, and Al-Jazeera.

John Kerr ’72
John Kerr is managing principal of Bay Financial Associates, a comprehensive wealth management firm in Waltham, Mass. He is also a registered investment advisor and president of Bay Financial Advisors. He received a B.S. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1972. Mr. Kerr has served on the board of trustees since 2009.

Carol Keup ’89
Carol Keup is chief executive officer of Valley Distributing and Storage Company, a privately owned third-party logistics provider in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. Ms. Keup received a B.S. in materials engineering and engineering management from Wilkes University in 1989. Ms. Keup has served on the board of trustees since 2008.

Milan Kirby
Milan Kirby is president of Gryphon Trading in Morristown, N.J. Mr. Kirby is also associated with Stanmar. He earned a B.S. from Providence College in 1987. Mr. Kirby has served on the board of trustees since 2004.

Daniel Klem ’68
Daniel Klem is a professor of biology and the Sarkis Acopian Professor of Ornithology and Conservation Biology at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. He received a B.A. in biology from Wilkes University in 1968, an M.A. in biology from Hofstra University in 1973, and a Ph.D. in zoology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1979. Dr. Klem has served on the board of trustees since 2000.

Dorothy Darling Mangelsdorf
Dorothy Darling Mangelsdorf is a singer, performing in Los Angeles and San Diego. Ms. Darling Mangelsdorf received a B.A. in history from Dickinson College in 1972 and an M.A. in anthropology from San Diego State University in 1985. Ms. Darling Mangelsdorf has served on the board of trustees since 2007.

Randall Mark  '81
Randy Mark is owner and president of Pulverman, a manufacturer of metal parts and assemblies located in Dallas, Pa. He received a B.S. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1981.

Melanie Maslow Lumia
Melanie Maslow Lumia is president of Huntsville Golf Club in Shavertown, Pa. Ms. Maslow Lumia is also a partner in Maslow Lumia Bartorillo Advertising, an advertising and marketing agency in Wilkes-Barre. She received a B.A. in French language and literature from Cornell University in 1986. Ms. Maslow Lumia has served on the board of trustees since 1995.

Michael J. Mahoney
Michael J. Mahoney is currently a director at FairPoint Communications, a New England-based communications provider. Before retiring he served as president and CEO of Commonwealth Telephone. He received a B.S. in accounting from Villanova University in 1972. Mr. Mahoney has served on the board of trustees since 2002.

George Matz ’71
George Matz most recently acted as senior vice president of world sales for Boston Technology, a systems and software leader based in Wakefield, Mass. He graduated from Wilkes University in 1971. Mr. Matz has served on the board of trustees since 2005.

John “Jack” Miller ’68
Jack Miller is chairman of the Osborn Retirement Community in Rye, N.Y. Mr. Miller retired in 2005 as a partner and vice chairman of KPMG LLP. He received a B.S. in commerce and finance from Wilkes University in 1968. Mr. Miller has served on the board of trustees since 1999.

William Miller ’81
Bill Miller is founder of Miller and Co., a consulting business that specializes in retail and brand consulting. He received a B.S. in business administration and communications from Wilkes University in 1981. Mr. Miller has served on the board of trustees since 1999.

Gerald Moffatt ’63
Gerald Moffatt most recently served as a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP in New York City. He received a B.S. in commerce and finance from Wilkes University in 1963. Mr. Moffatt has served on the board of trustees since 1975.

George Pawlush ’69 M’76
George Pawlush is vice president of public relations and community affairs at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Conn. He received a baccalaureate degree in 1969 and a master’s degree in 1976, both from Wilkes University. Mr. Pawlush has served on the board of trustees since 2009.

Thomas Ralston ’80
Thomas Ralston is leadership gift officer for Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. Mr. Ralston graduated from Wilkes University in 1980. Mr. Ralston has served as the Alumni Association representative to the board of trustees since 2011.

Hedy Rittenmeyer ’72
Hedy Rittenmeyer is president of Bridge Breast Network, a Dallas, Texas, non-profit organization that provides access to diagnostic and treatment services for breast cancer. She assisted in the start-up of Oak Leaf Therapeutic Horsemanship Center in Nicholson Township, Pa. Ms. Rittenmeyer received a B.S. in biology from Wilkes University in 1972.  Ms. Rittenmeyer has served on the board of trustees since 2008.

Steven Roth ’84
Steven Roth is a partner at Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald LLP, a multi-disciplinary regional law firm in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Roth received a B.S. in business administration from Wilkes University in 1984. He also received an M.B.A. from LaSalle University and a J.D. from Duquesne University. Mr. Roth has served on the board of trustees since 2007.

Virginia Sikes
Virginia Sikes is a partner at the Philadelphia law firm of Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads LLP. Ms. Sikes served a clerkship with the late Judge Max Rosenn of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She received an A.B. and M.Ed. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, before earning a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1981. Ms. Sikes has served on the board of trustees since 2006.

Elizabeth Slaughter ’68
Elizabeth Slaughter is a clinical psychologist and senior administrator. She received a B.A. in psychology from Wilkes University in 1968, followed by an M.A. from the New School for Research, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Slaughter has served on the board of trustees since 1982.

Doug is owner and president of Straub Metal International, a stainless steel distributor servicing North America and located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Mr. Straub received a B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1988.

Matthew Sordoni
Matthew Sordoni is vice president of Upland Corporation, a family office and holding company in Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Sordoni graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1999 with a degree in business administration and received his M.B.A from ESADE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. Mr. Sordoni has served on the board of trustees since 2011.
