Dr. Morrison has more than 25 years experience teaching multicultural education.


Dr. Gina Zanolini Morrison

Dr. Morrison has been teaching multicultural education classes for ten years in the undergraduate Teacher Education Program as part of its mission to prepare future teachers for the diversity of American classrooms. She has also taught qualitative research methods and Leadership, Diversity and Societal Change in the doctoral program, as well as comparative education, assessment, and ESL methods courses on the master’s level.

With more than 25 years in the field of multicultural education, having taught inner-city youth and English language learners before coming to Wilkes University in 1996, she served as the coordinator of multicultural affairs until 2002, when she joined the ranks of full-time faculty. In addition to teaching classroom management, first year foundations, and English as a second language teaching methods, she served as the coordinator for the ESL specialist certification program. Her new Student Teaching Abroad in Malaysia program for student teachers was established in 2012 and, due to its success, will continue to provide a unique opportunity for future teachers to gain experience in global education for years to come.

A native of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, she holds a PhD in Human Development/ Instructional Leadership and an MS in Counselor Education from Marywood University, with a BS in Secondary Education/Communications from Kutztown University. She is a PA state-certified Secondary Education Guidance Counselor and is certified to teach secondary level English and Communications, and ESL (K-12). Her research focuses on cultural identity development within multicultural contexts. She has published several journal articles on diverse learners, identity development, multicultural education, gender issues in education, and ESL methods. She has presented at international conferences in the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, India, and most recently in Singapore with six of her student teachers. Dr. Morrison has traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia and has conducted several research projects and professional development sessions in Malaysia.
