Reference Number • POS005 Department/Division • Center for Global Education and Diversity Description Wilkes University invites applicants for the position of Associate Director for Diversity Initiatives. The Associate Director is responsible for leading efforts to increase recruitment, success, and retention of students from under-represented groups; providing support and services for undergraduate and graduate students of color, monitoring their academic progress, advising them on academic and life issues, and advocating for their interests; leading, supporting, and coordinating efforts across the University to enhance diversity and enrich the academic, social, and cultural experiences of members of the campus community as they work, learn, and live together; planning, implementing, and assessing initiatives to increase success of a diverse student population, including building skills for effectiveness in a diverse world, celebrating differences, fostering learning across social and group boundaries, and building an inclusive community. Must have earned at least a master’s degree in an area such as counseling, student development, higher education administration, social or behavior sciences, or basic sciences. Also required are a demonstrated history of success working both independently and as part of a team, with a proven ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies, including faculty and senior academic administrators, and to deliver and improve programs and initiatives; strong communications skills and intercultural proficiency; and a proven ability to plan and execute programs and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the development of academic and social programs designed to improve the quality of the educational experiences of college age students, in general, and women and under-represented minority students, in particular.
