Position Title • Assistant Professor of Journalism Reference Number • COM014 Department/Division • Communications Studies Description Wilkes University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Journalism and News Media in the Department of Communication Studies. The high profile Department of Communication Studies serves more than one hundred undergraduates in the areas of Broadcast Media, Journalism, Public Relations/Organizational Communication, and Rhetoric and Public Address.
The successful candidate will teach three classes each semester from our journalism curriculum, including Basic Newswriting, Visual Rhetoric, Advanced Newswriting, Feature Writing, Mass Media Law, Media Ethics, and Writing for Magazines and E-Zines. Knowledge of and ability to develop new courses in new media and multi-platform and on-line storytelling will be considered positively. The successful candidate will also advise The Beacon, the University’s award-winning weekly newspaper, and coordinate the annual Tom Bigler High School Journalism Conference. A Ph.D. in Journalism or a related field is required for tenure; ABD candidates will be considered. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in traditional journalism and/or new media formats, as well as demonstrable success in advising student publications. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
