The University's 22 Smart Classrooms support... teaching and learning with easy-to-use presentation equipment. Each classroom comes equipped with a dedicated desktop with CD-RW and DVD viewing capabilities, ceiling-mounted LCD projectors, DVD/VCR units, document cameras, electronic projection screens, and high-speed Internet connectivity.
Scheduling a Smart Classroom...
Contact the Register's Office to schedule use of one of the Smart Classrooms.
Unlike special-purpose or discipline-specific laboratories and classrooms, Smart Classrooms are general-purpose workhorses with the potential to serve the greatest number of faculty and students, regardless of discipline.
Smart Classrooms are located in... Breiseth 106, 107, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 211, 212, 316, 320 Capin 103 Kirby 305 SLC 147, 205, 223, 270, 359, 380, 405, 424, 411 Farley Library basement, Media Center area.
To use the equipment in Smart Classrooms, follow the instructions below. Instructions are also available in each Smart Classroom.
Please turn off all equipment when you are finished.
Document Camera... Turn projector on with black remote located on top of podium. Turn on the document camera by pressing the power button on the left side. Turn on the lights by pressing the lights button on the top of the document camera. Press the video button on the black remote on the top podium until S-Video is displayed on the screen.
VCR... Turn projector on with black remote located on top of podium. Press the power button on the front of the VCR/DVD player. Select the VCR button on the front of the VCR/DVD player by using the select button. Press the video button on the black remote on the top of the podium until "Video" is displayed on the screen. Insert VHS tape and hit the "Play" button.
DVD... Turn projector on with black remote located on top of podium. Press the power button on the front of the VCR/DVD player. Select the DVD button on the front of the VCR/DVD player by using the select button. Press the video button on the black remote on the top of the podium until "Component Video" is displayed on the screen. Insert DVD and hit the "Play" button.
Laptop... Turn projector on with black remote located on top of podium. Connect the RGB cable located on the podium to the laptop (for projector connectivity). Connect the Ethernet cable for Internet Connectivity. Connect the audio cable located on the podium to the laptop (for audio availability). Turn on laptop. Press the select button on the black switch box on top of the podium until (1-(laptop)) is illuminated. Use the black remote and press the RGB button until "RGB 1" is displayed on the screen.
Stationary Desktop Computer... Turn projector on with black remote located on top of podium. Turn on the PC monitor and PC tower. Press the RGB button on the black remote until the "RGB 1" is displayed on the screen. Press the select button on the black switch box on top of podium until (2-(PC)) is illuminated. Internet access is available, there is no need to adjust network settings. To login use the faculty account or your Wilkes domain account.
Problems During Class... Each Smart Classroom is equipped with a telephone. Faculty may call the University Help Desk at ext 4357 if they encounter a technology problem during class. IT Services has a rapid response service to provide support during the University;s normal business hours.
