Dr. Michael R. Davidson
Assistant Professor
History
Biography
Dr. Davidson’s research centers on early medieval Britain and Ireland, and he was a contributor to the volume on Edward the Elder in 2001. He is also in the process of revising his dissertation as a potential contribution to Boydell and Brewer's "Studies in Anglo-Saxon History" series, and is working on several articles relating to eleventh- and twelfth-century Irish ecclesiastical reform. Before coming to Wilkes in 2007, he taught for a semester at Bates College, and for three years each at Newberry College in South Carolina and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. His teaching duties in that time included courses in ancient, Asian, British, Latin American, medieval, and world history, historical methods, history and film, and western civilization. Interests outside the classroom include canoeing, fishing, hiking, and skiing. Dr. Davidson received a B.S. in history from Bates College, where he lettered in nordic skiing, and also studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland for a junior year abroad. He returned there for graduate work in medieval history, receiving the Ph.D. degree in 2003.
