Game and Emergent Technology Minor
Want to design the next hot video game or create your own immersive, virtual world? Wilkes University’s 18-credit minor in game and emergent technology introduces students to video game history, design and implementation. Invent new worlds or add digital elements to photos or videos with emergent technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.
Courses prepare students for a range of interactive/immersive careers in game design, production, visualization, 3-D simulation, and other content creation environments. In addition to gaming, the skills learned in this minor can be applied in simulation and training careers. Industries employing immersive experiences for training purposes include:

Students completing the gaming and emergent technology minor will:
- understand visual storytelling;
- learn interactive programming languages;
- use content creation software and game development engines;
- implement interactive scenarios in a game engine;
- produce playable applications in both 2-D and 3-D environments;
- understand the fundamentals of VR/AR concepts and their real-world applications.
Hands-on courses in our state-of-the-art design studio allow you to graduate with a portfolio of interactive creative work. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend or present work at industry conferences such as the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH).
Game and emergent technology courses may be taken as a cognate minor for the digital design and media art major, or as a minor compatible with engineering, computer science, mathematics or other majors.
