Pre-Orientation Adventure Day

Wilkes University's Office of Student Development is excited to offer two Pre-Orientation Adventure Days for incoming students, which are scheduled for June 30, 2018 and July 14, 2018. Our WAE Days will include rock climbing, swimming, boating, hiking and an all-round good time outside! These days are designed for you to have fun, challenge yourself, get a head start establishing friendships with people of similar interests, and get acquainted with the Wilkes Adventure Education (WAE) staff. Who is eligible for this trip?
All incoming first-year students are eligible to register for one of the two dates listed above.

How can I sign up if I am interested?
Registration for the trips will be by an online form that can be accessed on the First-Year Student Orientation portal. Space is limited and fills up fast!

How much does the trip cost?
There are no costs associated with the trip. The Office of Student Development will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday.

Who will my trip leaders be?
The trip will be led by Student Development’s Adventure Education Coordinator and several fun, experienced student facilitators.

What will the trip entail?
The adventure trip is designed for all outdoor enthusiasts. Participants will meet for breakfast at 9:00 am on Saturday in the Student Center and take the short drive to Camp Kresge for the all-day experience. Students will have many opportunities to play, relax, meet new people and engage in challenging outdoor activities. Evening programming is also included.

Where will I stay on Saturday night?
All first-years students are required to stay on campus on Sunday night during Orientation. Students who register to participate in the Pre-Orientation Adventure Outing will be eligible to move into their rooms on Friday evening or Saturday morning depending on traveling distance.

Important Information for Students Attending 
Pre-Orientation WAE Day

Hello Wilkes Adventurers!
Welcome to WAE Day! We are excited to lead your first outdoor experience with Wilkes University and introduce you to our current students involved in Adventure programming! We’d like you to be prepared to have a great time.

Below is a packing list for the day at Camp Kresge, a local camp with lots of history and great facilities. No need to be extreme and buy new gear, just bring items you can get dirty and will keep you in a good spirits to ENJOY a full day outside.

In addition to the personal belongings you will need for Orientation, please bring with you:

  • BROKEN IN sneakers, tennis shoes or trail shoes, extra socks
    (NO brand new boots, flip flops, sandals, open toes, etc.)
  • Small daypack/backpack  
  • Rain jacket/poncho (We will go rain or shine, barring heavy storms)
  • Bathing suit and towel
  • Change of clothes
  • Sunscreen/hat/sunglasses
  • Flashy smile
  • Your signed waiver (if you are under 18, the waiver must be signed by a parent/guardian)

We will provide: Transportation, lunch, dinner, snacks, portable water and bug spray.

*We meet up on the first floor, Henry Student Center at 84 W South St. at 9am on Saturday (June 30/July 14) for registration.

We will provide a light breakfast and brief the trip.  You will have time to check into your room for the weekend, and leave your luggage securely there.  We will be at camp most of the day and early evening, with programming at Wilkes upon our return.
