Welcome Back, Class of 2024!

We are excited to welcome you to campus.

Welcome Weekend 2020

Welcome Weekend will take place from Wednesday, August 19 through Sunday, August 23, 2020. Welcome weekend is the first weekend for first year students at Wilkes that acts as an extension to Orientation. A variety of activities will take place, such as a scavenger hunt of library resources, social activities, introduction to Wilkes University traditions, and a variety of mandatory, informational workshops.

Welcome Weekend is a 4-day program for all residential and commuter first-year students. Registration for Welcome Weekend is not required.

Session 1 (Wednesday, August 19 - Saturday, August 22) Schedule

7 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Breakfast, Henry’s Food Court, 3rd Floor, Henry Student Center

Students will be able to enjoy buffet style in our Henry’s Cafe catered by Aramark Food Services. Meal plans will be active for all resident students, using their Wilkes ID. 

8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Move in and Check in for Residential Students

Residential students will be able to pick up their Wilkes ID card, key for their assigned residence hall and detailed schedule of the weekend’s events. Students will move in according to their e-Mentor assignment.

11 a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Lunch, Henry Student Center

Students will be able to enjoy lunch buffet style in our Henry’s Cafe catered by Aramark Food Services. Meal plans will be active for all resident students, using their Wilkes ID. 

1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Move in and Check in for Residential Students

Residential students will be able to pick up their Wilkes ID card, key for their assigned residence hall and detailed schedule of the weekend’s events. Students will move in according to their e-Mentor assignment.

4:30p.m. - 7:30p.m.

Dinner, Henry Student Center

Students will have the opportunity to enjoy a meal on Campus in our Henry’s Cafe.

Henry’s Cafe is traditional buffet style and catered by Aramark Food Services.

8 p.m.

Get Crafty in College, Your Assigned Residence Hall

Grab a craft to take to your room to help build your college decor!  Meet with your

Resident Assistant to pick up your take-and-make craft! 

7 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Check in for Commuter Students, University Center on Main

Commuter students will be able to pick up their Wilkes ID, parking pass and detailed schedule of the weekend’s events. Students will check-in according to their e-Mentor assignment.

10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Meet with Your e-Mentor, Various Locations on Campus

Students will be able to reconnect with their mentor and partake in a series of icebreakers and review the weekend’s schedule. 

If you have not been assigned a mentor, please see the Student Develop.m.ent Staff at the University Center on Main Lobby.

11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Campus and Classroom Tour,Various Locations on Campus

Students will have the opportunity to take a specific Campus tour based on their class schedule led by their e-Mentor, identifying class locations for the first week of the  semester.

Lunch, Henry Student Center  

Students will be able to enjoy lunch buffet style in our Henry’s Cafe catered by

Aramark Food Services. Meal plans will be active for all resident students, using their Wilkes ID.  Meal passes will be provided for all commuter students.

Visit the Wilkes University Bookstore at Barnes and Noble, 7 South Main Street Take a stroll to the Wilkes Bookstore to check out all they have to offer.  Meet the staff, learn about buying or renting your school books, and take a walk through the Wilkes merchandise.  You will receive a coupon to use throughout the semester! 

Welcome Weekend To-Do List, Online

Log into the D2L module to complete the your Welcome Weekend checklist: pass the handbook quiz, complete the Institutional Research Survey, get orientated to D2L for your coursework, and much more!  Finish this before your classes start - it will be one less thing on your new school year to do list!

Join this session via ZOOM from the comfort of your own room!  Take your chance to win some “back-to-school” swag.  Make sure you shout it out - BINGO!

Goat Yoga, Evans Hall Greenway

Join Buttinheads Farm and their yoga goats! Choose from a 1-hour time slot (10a.m. - 11a.m. or 11a.m. - 12p.m.), bring a towel or yoga mat!.  You can’t help but smile as you practice your poses alongside the goats, and spontaneous snuggling just helps with the stress relief.  There are 60 spaces per session.  This will be a first-come, first-served event!

Yoga with WAE, Fenner Quadrangle

Join Wilkes Adventure Education for Yoga on the Greenway led by Jill Price, Adventure Education Coordinator.  Bring a mat or a towel - stretch and find your center before classes begin!

11 a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Students will be able to enjoy lunch buffet style in our Henry’s Cafe catered by

Community Service with Your e-Mentor, Various Locations on Campus

Students will be able to reconnect with their mentor to continue and complete their assigned Orientation community service project.

Building Skills for College Success, Breiseth Hall, Room 107

Your first year of college can be many things. It can be fun, rewarding, stressful,  overwhelming, exciting…the list can go on and on. One thing that you absolutely want it to be is SUCCESSFUL. Please join the University College staff for a workshop that will review how successful students make it all happen. Staff will be reviewing tips for staying organized and managing your time/tasks, tips for studying, expectations that college professors have of students, and ways to stay focused on your goals for the semester. The more information you have, the less overwhelming it will be, which will help you become that successful college student!

Hosted by Spirited Art, learn the steps to painting a unique design on a canvas of your own!  There are 60 spaces for this session.  This will be a first-come, first-served event!

Using your smartphones, players can fast finger 'buzz' in to answer questions (like on the TV show Jeopardy). The player or tea.m. with the top score wins!  Up to $200 in cash prizes!
