Award-winning educator, speaker, writer and grassroots activist Robyn Ochs will lead the interactive event "Beyond Binaries: Identity and Sexuality" on Tuesday, March 26 at Wilkes University. Ochs will speak at 6 p.m. in the McHale Athletic Center in the University Center on Main, 169 S. Main St., in Wilkes-Barre.

Wilkes University Mark Engineering Center Receives 2019 Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence

The Mark Engineering Center at Wilkes University was awarded the 2019 Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania. The award was granted in the building and technology systems category. Borton-Lawson Engineering, Inc. was the engineering firm for the renovation. A formal ceremony was held Feb. 28 in Lancaster, Pa. where both organizations were recognized.

Award-Winning Author Carmen Maria Machado Reads At Wilkes University's Allan Hamilton Dickson Series on March 18

Carmen Maria Machado, author of the award-winning short story collection Her Body and Other Parties, will read from her work on March 18 as part of the Allan Hamilton Dickson Fund Spring Writers Series at Wilkes University. The reading, hosted by the Wilkes English Department, will be at 7 p.m. in the Salon of Kirby Hall, 202 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre. Machado also will conduct a workshop with Wilkes students that day. The event is free and open to the public.

Bryan Stevenson, attorney, human rights activist, executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, and author of Just Mercy, will deliver the Max Rosenn Lecture in Law and Humanities on April 14 at Wilkes University. Stevenson will speak about "American Injustice: Mercy, Humanity and Making a Difference." The event will be at 2 p.m. in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, 239 S. Wilkes University Presents "The Vagina Monologues" on Feb. 22 and 23

Wilkes University presents a benefit production of the award-winning play "The Vagina Monologues" on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Friday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The play will be in the Ballroom of the Henry Student Center, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes' is the only production of the landmark play in northeast Pennsylvania.

Wilkes University Theatre presents the Tony awarding-winning musical, Cabaret. The performances will take place on Feb. 21, 22, and 23 at 8 p.m. with matinee performances on Feb. 23 and 24 at 2 p.m. The production is at Wilkes' Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, 239 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre.

Sponsored in collaboration with the Campus Interfaith office and the office of Diversity Affairs, it will take place from 11 a.m. to noon in the Henry Student Center, first floor lounge, 84 West South Street, Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes University's Small Business Development Center has set a record for the amount of financing that it secured for clients in 2018. Wilkes University Passan School of Nursing Pass Rate Exceeds National and State Averages

Recent graduates from Wilkes University's Passan School of Nursing achieved a pass rate that exceeds the national and state averages on the National Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Wilkes bachelor of science in nursing graduates taking the test between Oct. 2017 and Sept. 2018 achieved a 95.12 percent pass rate.

The possibility of a China and United States "trade war" and its historical significance will be explored in a lecture sponsored by Wilkes University's Contemporary History Project. "Beyond the Trade War: Historical Reflections on U.S.-China Relations" will be the topic of the lecture by Yanqiu Zheng, assistant professor of history and government at Misericordia University. Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy Holds Brown Bag Medication Review on Oct. 30

Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, in collaboration with Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne and Wyoming Counties, sponsors Brown Bag Medication Review during American Pharmacists' Month in October in Agency on the Aging Centers. The event will occur on Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 17 centers across the region. Wilkes will send over 120 student phamracists and over 20 pharmacists to conduct brown bag medication reviews and blood pressure screenings. Attendees participating in the medication review are asked to bring all medications or a list of medications including over-the-counter medications and vitamins. Free pill boxes, disposal bags, medication take-aways and health trackers will be available at the event.

Heather Sincavage, director of the Sordoni Art Gallery and assistant professor of art at Wilkes University, is one of seven artists and artistic organizations from around the country recognized for artistic achievement by the Tanne Foundation. The foundation's mission is to underscore the importance of supporting individual artists with unrestricted funding. Approx. $63,000 total was awarded to the seven honorees.

Wilkes University Observes Patriot Day, Commemorates 17th Anniversary of Sept. 11 Attacks With Event

Wilkes University will observe Patriots Day on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Commemorating the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the event will pay tribute to all those impacted with a ceremony led by the University's ROTC Detachment 752. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Henry Student Center Ballroom, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre. The event will be highlighted by presenting a Flag of Honor, a special flag that has all names of the victims of the attacks printed on it. The Flag of Honor being used at the event is being presented to Wilkes and will be framed and hung permanently on the wall in the Air Force ROTC Detachment office within University Center on Main.

Wilkes University President Patrick F. Leahy Appointed to Pennsylvania Tuition Account Program Advisory Board

Wilkes University President Patrick F. Leahy has been appointed to serve on Pennsylvania's Tuition Account Program Advisory Board. Leahy is the only president of more than 90 private institutions in the state to be selected for the board, which includes 19 members. Leahy was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. Other members include State Treasurer Joseph M. Torsella and State Representative Michael Peifer.
