Drumming: The Soul of Africa with Dr. Godlove Fonjweng

Drumming:  The Soul of Africa, with Dr. Godlove Fonjweng

Dr. Godlove Fonjweng, Wilkes Director of Global Education and accomplished African drummer, will present an hour of African drumming, dancing and singing this Sunday, March 3rd at 10:30 at the Unitarian Universalist Church located at the intersection of Mt. Olivet and Church Road.  Godlove will be accompanied by additional Cameroonian drummer/singers plus Jim Merryman, Wilkes anthropologist, on back-up congas and vocals.  Dr. Fonjweng will trace the evolution of African drumming from animism and ancestor worship to its more recent integration with Christianity.  The presentation is kid friendly with opportunities for audience participation.  The event is free and open to the public.

Additional directions: Take 8th Street west in Wyoming for 2-3 miles, turn left on Mt. Olivet for approximately a half mile, then left on Church Rd.  St. Cabrini’s is on the corner, the Unitarian Universalist Church is just beyond, classic New England steepled white church.
