Art in Transit

A Partnership of the Sordoni Art Gallery and Luzerne County Transportation Authority

Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) and the Sordoni Art Gallery present the LCTA Arts Program, LCTA/Arts.  LCTA/Arts incorporates the visual arts into the LCTA public transit system, enhancing the street-level experience and offering moments of joyful surprise for public transit riders and the general public.

About the Program

LCTA/Arts works with visual artists, other arts professionals, architects, engineers, community organizations and representatives developing projects reflecting the spirit and vitality of communities served by LCTA.

What LCTA Does

  • Uses the LCTA transit environment as a place where customers and the public can enjoy the arts as a regular part of their daily lives.
  • Contributes to the dynamic cultural and artistic scene of downtown Wilkes Barre and surrounding areas in Luzerne County and recognizes, values, and celebrates the communities it serves.
  • Encourages public-private partnerships to support art projects that may not be achieved independently.
  • Increases enthusiasm for and support of LCTA’s public transportation.

Project Location

The artwork will be displayed in one of two bus stop shelters - one in downtown Wilkes Barre and one at a new location in LCTA’s bus system.

Project Theme

The theme for this year’s submission is “Community and Connection”

The LCTA / Arts Program acknowledges that cultural equity is critical to the long-term viability of the arts. The program actively seeks to work with artists of all backgrounds and to inclusively engage the talents of historically underrepresented peoples.
