Tobacco Use/Smoking Policy

Tobacco Use/Smoking Policy

Use of tobacco, in any form, is prohibited in all University owned, managed or leased buildings, vehicles, shuttles and vans. The University reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to designate certain areas where smoking is permitted on campus*. Tobacco is defined as all tobacco-derived or containing products, including and not limited to, cigarettes (e.g., clove, bidis, kreteks), electronic cigarettes, cigars and cigarillos, hookah smoked products, pipes, and oral tobacco (e.g., spit and spitless, smokeless, chew, snus) and nasal tobacco (e.g. snuff). It also includes any product intended to mimic tobacco products, contain tobacco flavoring, or deliver nicotine other than for the purpose of cessation (patch, gum, or inhaler are acceptable).

Anyone smoking tobacco-derived products in outdoor locations on campus must be at least twenty feet from any building door, window, or ventilating system. Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action.

* The designated smoking area can be found outside of Breiseth Hall.
