This directory was created to assist Wilkes student veterans in locating the correct lines of communication as to which faculty, staff, and offices to locate in assistance to answer any questions that may come up during your time at Wilkes University.

Resource Directory

  • Admissions Office | Answers your questions and assists with the process to enroll as a student at Wilkes.
  • Registrar’s Office | Provides services related to academic records including course registration, grade posting and transcript maintenance.
  • Bursar’s Office | Responsible for tuition billing, payment plan management and student refund processing.
  • Academic Support Services | Offers comprehensive academic support including counseling, coaching, workshops, tutoring and supplemental instruction.
  • Writing Center | Provides peer mentoring-based academic writing support from helping to narrow down a paper topic to assisting with revisions for your final draft.
  • Center for Career Development and Internships | Offers support to clarify your career goals through hands-on internship experience as well as career exploration and preparation.
  • Health and Wellness Services | Provides routine confidential health care and counseling for the campus community.
  • Pennsylvania National Guard State Family Program Region 3 | 800-273-8255 | The PA National Guard State Family Program external website supports active-duty Guard and Reserve members and their families with information, resources and referral services for a wide range of needs. 
  • CareerLink | 570-822-1101 | CareerLink external website provides assistance with job searches, training and unemployment benefits.
  • Commission on Economic Opportunity | 570-826-0510 or 1-800-822-0359 | The CEO, in collaboration with the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, operates a homeless veterans’ transitional housing program external website. The project also offers supportive services for veterans with serious mental health and substance abuse issues. 
  • Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania | 570-823-5144 | FSA external website provides counseling, crisis support and other services to individuals, families, children and seniors.
  • American Legion | 570-821-2526 | The American Legion external website serves veterans and their families at no charge by assisting with paperwork surrounding VA disability benefits as well as referrals and resources for education, business and employment.
  • St. Hedwig’s Veterans Village | 570-906-0764 | St. Hedwig’s Veterans Village, run by Catholic Social Services external website, provides one- and two-bedroom apartments for veterans and their dependent families. CSS also assists with job searches, education, recreation and other community services.
  • Veterans Affairs | 570-706-3960 | Located in Luzerne County, the Veterans Affairs office external website provides support with non-service connected benefits, burial benefits, emergency assistance, real estate property tax exemption and military discharges.
  • Scranton Vet Center | 570-344-2676 | Provides assistance with benefits issues and counseling.
  • Wilkes-Barre VA Hospital | 877-928-2621 (24-hour service) | The VA Hospital in Wilkes-Barre honors America’s veterans by providing exceptional care.
  • Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency | 1-800-342-2397 | The PHFA external website works to provide affordable homeownership and rental apartment options for senior adults, low- and moderate-income families, and people with special housing needs.
  • PA Veterans of Foreign Wars HQ | 570-821-2535/2536 | The PA VFW HQ external website provides assistance with certifying paperwork for VA-related claims, accessing benefits for veterans and helping veterans in crisis. Reach out via phone or use the online form external website.
  • Veterans Crisis Line | 1-800-273-8255 | If you’re a veteran in crisis or concerned about one, connect with the Veterans Crisis Line external website by phone, text or online chat. We have a team of caring, qualified responders with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Many of tour responders are veterans themselves.
  • National Call Center for Homeless Veterans | 1-877-4AID-VET or 1-877-424-3838 | If you, a family member or a friend is a veteran who is homeless or at risk for homelessness, the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans external website offers assistance via phone or online chat.
  • National Coalition for Homeless Veterans | 1-800-VET-HELP or 1-800-838-4357 | The NCHV external website provides resource and technical assistance for a national network of community-based service providers and local, state and federal agencies that provide housing, employment services, case management, legal aid, and other supportive services to thousands of veterans experiencing or at-risk of homelessness each year.
